ABDOMINAL MASSAGE--is a specific massaging of the abdomen to relieve  adhesions in the abdominal organs.  It is for clients who have had abdominal surgery and are suffering from scar tissue.    It can be a physicians prescription or an as needed basis.  It is a 20 min procedure.    
 
CHAIR MASSAGE--Residential, Office, Retirement Center--chair massages are done while you're seated fully clothed in a portable, specially designed chair. They usually involve a massage of your neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands.
 
DEEP TISSUE--is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

 ORTHOPEDIC/INJURY RECOVERY--This specialized session involves working with muscle and fascia. Emphasis is on muscle tension, spasm, pain, and referred pain combining several techniques including but not limited to myofascial release, stretching, and posture re-education.
 
PREGNANCY MASSAGE--During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. Pregnancy massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain. Massage may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited.  We advise  pregnant clients to refrain from eating a meal for about 2 hours before a massage if possible.  This is especially important later in the pregnancy. 

 Using specifically designed massage pillows, the massage therapist utilize the sidelying position to insure the safety of the fetus.   We also utilize a 2-1/2 ft. incline cushion when mom is lying on her back to prevent the fetus from pressing on mom's major blood vessels (i.e. iliac arteries and vena cava). 

The First Trimester is Week 1-12.  Massage is not recommended during this period for a variety of reasons: 
  • general health complications and risk of possible miscarriage.
  • massage increases core temperature which could be critical to the embryo.
  • massage can cause nausea, fatigue, and dizziness during this period.
  • there are many excess toxins released into the bloodstream affecting the embryo.
  • massage stimulates blood flow and can increase blood pressure issues. 

If you do request a massage during week 1-14 please provide a written release for massage from the client's physician; after all, we do not know the  specific attributes of that pregnancy,  the clients entire medical history or  how complications might interact with that person's pregnancy. 
 
One medical study found that pregnant women who received massage over a 5-week period had:
  • decreased uterine stress hormone levels.
  • experienced fewer labor complications.
  • Their infants had fewer post-delivery problems
  • fewer infants were born prematurely   (Field 2001; Field et al., 1999)

Major massage benefits during 2nd & 3rd trimesters include:
  • Greater energy, less fatigue
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Less back and leg pain
  • Better sleep, less insomnia
  • General relaxation, stress reduction
  • Improved mood
  • Less anxiety and depression

In the normal pregnancy, the 2nd trimester is the safest and easiest part.  Massage relaxes muscles that have begun to tighten and possibly spasm.  Gentle stroking of the abdomen is permissible at this point.  Attention to lower back muscles and along the muscle attachments on the iliac crest with circular friction and fingertip kneading can help relieve tightness there.

In the 3rd trimester discomfort increases as the fetus gains weight and the mom's body prepares for delivery.  Massage session focus on comfort and relaxation. 
 
 
REIKI HEALING MASSAGE--(pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese form of energy healing that cleanses and balances the energy patterns in the body. As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum mental, emotional, and physical health. During a session, your therapist works in energetic connection with you in order to remove blockages, detoxify your energy system, and restore your vital life force energy. Clients remain clothed and no lotions or oils are used. The Reiki technique utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between client and therapist. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.
 
Our session is the combined modalities of swedish massage and reiki. It blends the gentle rhythmic flow of a relaxing swedish massage with the healing energy of a reiki session to bring balance and relaxation to your body, mind and spirit.

ROSSITER STRETCHING/TREATMENT-  Rossiter is the fastest corrective procedure of all the massage modalities available in the massage industry.  Results are immediate.  The client (person-in-charge PIC), lies on a mat.  The therapist provides weight and warmth of a foot to anchor the tissue to make connective tissue  pliable and simultaneously "coaches" the PIC to stretch a specific pattern.  The result is to quickly and effectively change large amounts of connective tissue so that painful adhesions are eliminated and muscles are allowed to return to healthy movement patterns.  Range of motion is restored and pain is eliminated.  Initial results are immediate.  When the client gets up off the mat he will feel the change and improvement in his condition.  Walking after the treatment allows the body to re balance or adjust to the treatment changes.  The muscles continue to release for two hours after the treatment.  The release is an internal release of connective tissue so there is no muscle soreness after the treatment. If you feel 50% improvement your are improved 50%.  If improvement feels 100% then the issue probably will not return.  A 50% improvement should return every 24 hrs for treatment until correction is 100%/  


ROSSITER RESPIRATORY TREATMENT-  This is a respiratory treatment that breaks up the congestion in the lungs which allows the body to expell the debris.  This treatment takes 15 -20 minutes.  It is $100 a treatment.  You will feel 50% better, 80% better.  It varies with the client.  The treatment lasts 3-6 months.

The clients who did the Rossiter  Respiratory  each feel 80%+ better immediately.  Each had a coughing episode of significant preportion  within an hour after the treatment and each felt an improvement beyond their expectations.

Clients who had the treatment were individuals who worked with chemicals, brick masons who worked with concrete dust and silt, sedintary individuals who had shortness of breath, teens suffering from asthma.  

 
SIDE LYING MASSAGE--This position is appreciated by the client who is not comfortable with the traditional headrest position.  This position is excellent for treatment of frozen shoulders, back issues, hips and breathing difficulties.  This position  allows the most access to the lateral rib cage than any of the massage positions.  If you have never had a good side lying massage, treat yourself to the experience.
 
SPORTS MASSAGE--Developed to help with muscle systems used for a particular sport, sports massage uses a variety of approaches to help athletes in training -- before, during, or after sports events. You might use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries. Or, it may help muscle strains, aiding healing after a sports injury.  We have generally replaced Sports Massage with the newest theory of Rossiter but there are definite benefits of combining Sports Massage with Rossiter.
 
SWEDISH MASSAGE--The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combined with movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing. And it may even help after an injury.  
 
THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE--Deep Tissure--Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage can be quite therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.
 
TREATMENT THERAPY
  • BACK PAIN TREATMENT--A study funded by the government suggests that massage may help relieve chronic low back pain. After 10 weeks, people who had weekly massages had less pain and were better able to go about their daily activities than people who got traditional care. That was true no matter what type of massage they got, and the benefits lasted at least six months.  BACK PAIN.  The Theraplate is an alternative to back massage.   The  Theraplate relaxes all the muscles of the body at one time.  It sooths the body systems and calms the nerves.  Rossiter is another alternative for back treatment.  Most back issues are usually IT Band, hip flexor or hip rotator issues.  Rossiter treatment can relieve the pain immediately.
     (30 min, 60 min)
 
  • NECK & SHOULDER TREATMENT (30 min, 60 min) This treatment can utilize three treatment positions; of face down, side lying  and lying on your back. It only addresses the upper body.   
 
  • HEADACHE TREATMENT( 10 min, 30 min) This treatment utilizes, SMRT (simultaneous muscle release therapy), Eric Dalton Method, electric point therapy and therapeutic massage.  It is the best way to get rid of a headache with out medication.  A 10 min headache treatment is $20 and is guaranteed to work.
 
THERAPLATE PAIN MANAGEMENT -Full Body Vibration Therapy.  Vibration therapy is a long standing treatment modality in the medical community.  There are multitudes of  research studies about the health benefit of vibration.  But not all vibration is the same.  The Theraplate is an eliptical vibration.  You will feel a wave-like motion to the vibration.  The eliptical motion eliminates any negative side effects of traditional vertical or concussion producing vibration.  The only side effect of Theraplate is it lowers blood pressure.  We do monitor any clients who have a history of low blood pressure.  

The Theraplate relaxes the body in 6 min and makes its changes is 10 min.  I schedule the Theraplate in 30 min sessions for $10.  Most clients appreciate the 30 min.   Some take naps and some do exercises on the Theraplate bed.  Some clients schedule two sessions 1) lying down.  2) sitting up.  

Vibration has a calming/relaxing effect on the body and its many muscle and organ systems.  A client coming in with  a complaint muscle complaint may experience benefits more areas of the body than the muscles-l-organs and nerves.  I tell clients that it will relax the muscles but they are often pleasantly surprised by multiple benefits.  We have had excellent results for fiber myalgia, arthritis, Parkinson's tremors, stroke recovery, scoliosis, kyphosis, nervous issues and abdominal issues.
  
THERAPLATE -Standing unit for leg swelling and foot pain.  Many clients will use both the Theraplate bed and the Standing Theraplate in one 30 min session.  They stand on the Standing Unit for 10 min.  There is a standing routine they can utilize to help the time pass.  It is hard work standing in one place for any length of time so the exercise routine helps to pass the time.  It is also fun and educational.
